Weather, Attitude Changes Warm-up Illusion

December 18, 2006

It wasn't just the mild, sunny December weather that left Head Coach Keith Ludwig smiling as the Illusion wrapped up it's final fall practice at Bayview Park Saturday afternoon. Ludwig sensed the unseasonable warm weather wasn't the only climate that had changed.

"I see so many positive changes from a year ago. These ladies have really stepped it up," Ludwig said "Their attitudes are completely different. The work ethic I've seen this fall is amazing."

Ludwig, along with first-year coaches James Reavis and Darcie Ellis, have spent the last two months pushing the Erie ladies through fundamental and conditioning drills as they prepare for their fifth season in the N.W.F.A.

Along with 15 returning players, 15 rookies participated in the fall mini-camp. With 30 women committed to the upcoming season thus far, Ludwig hopes to tackle his first game with the largest, deepest roster the Illusion has seen in three seasons.

Following a holiday break, the Erie team will begin it's twice weekly winter sessions in mid-January. Ludwig said he will continue his open tryout/practice sessions for two weeks, but plans to finalize his roster by the end of January.

"I think we have a great group of women this season," Ludwig said. "I'm really excited and encouraged by what I've seen. It would be great to add a few more players, but I'm very pleased with the effort I have seen so far."
