New Coach to Launch Illusion’s 5th Anniversary Season

September 13, 2006

With its’ Fifth Anniversary season on the horizon, the Erie Illusion women’s football team will mark the occasion with a new coach, new logo and a new vision.

Keith Ludwig, who patrolled the sidelines with former coach Bob Beres last season, was named Head Coach of the Illusion and will direct the team’s first tryouts of the season at the end of the month.

Ludwig boasts four years of football coaching experience, including stints at high schools in Southern New Jersey and Jamestown, Pa. He said he is eager to take over the helm of the Illusion.

“I’m extremely honored to accept the position and excited about the upcoming season,” Ludwig said. “I really believe we can do a lot of really positive things next season. I’m really looking forward to getting out on the field.”

Ludwig is employed as an admissions counselor for Vision Quest in Franklin, Pa. He lives in Conneaut with his wife and two children.

Beres, who coached the Illusion to its’ first victory last season, stepped down to spent more time with his family. He spend three seasons committed to the Erie team and will remain on staff with the Illusion as a consultant to Ludwig.

In addition to taking the field with a new coach in 2007, the Illusion will also sport a new look. A new logo and redesigned uniforms will be unveiled in November, to mark the Fifth Anniversary Season of the Erie franchise.

And to help usher in the new coach, new logo and new vision, the Erie Illusion invites any women over 18 years old to attend open practices on Sept. 23, 24, 30 and Oct. 1. The practices are free and only open to new players. They are designed to allow women who have never played, or have limited experience,a chance to learn and play football. Illusion veterans will begin a fall mini-camp on Oct. 14.

The practices will be held from 10 a.m. until Noon on Saturdays and 1 – 3 p.m. on Sundays at Bayview Park at 2nd & Cherry street. Women who wish to practice will need workout clothes and proof of insurance.
