win opener on late TD returnROSSFORD, OHIO– Martha Swick returned on interception 27 yards for the winning touchdown with 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Erie Illusion to 8-0 victory over the Toledo Spitfire in the NWFA season opener Saturday night at Rossford High school.
“This is a great win, a great first step for the season,” Illusion coach
Bob Beres said. “We established a good running game and now have a lot
to build on for the rest of the season.”
Tiffany Peterson carried the offensive charge for Erie (1-0) running 22 times for 110 yards, and catching two passes for 7 yards. Peterson also added the two-point conversion on the end of Swick’s touchdown return. Quarterback Julie Kemmling went 8-for-17 passing for 60 yards and ran the ball 11 times for 44 yards.
“This win showed how close and how tough this team is, to pull out a win
in the last minutes of a tough game. There are a lot of positives tonight.”
Beres said.
